The Taboo of Sex in the Middle East

Recently, two young men and teenage girl were sentenced in an Iranian court to recieve lashings for having sex outside of wedlock. The woman claimed she was raped and pleaded her case in court but to no avail. She was sentenced to recieve 100 lashings after the court ruled that she voluntarily had sex with the men. The two men were given a lesser sentence of 30 and 40 lashings. The ruling came from a Tehran judge, stating that her accusations of rape and kidnap could have landed the two men a death penalty.
In Iran, accompanied by most countries in the middle east, it is illegal to have sex outside of marriage and more often than not results in capital punishment.
